Research Facility Story

corridor_hd Birth place of Kadian.  Research facility lyndale named after the former researcher who later became Kadian.  Project XRD-9 can come into light for a story line behind our little AI.

This thing took three hours and thirty minutes to render.  I was looking at my PC window to see if anything was smoking after 1 hour.  Nothing smell out of the ordinary.

First Character

After a few days sketching and hard work we have finished our first character named Kadian.  She will be our AI for the Battle Station project.  Kadian will be our main AI and tutorial guide on the game.

The Big Wall

We’ve been having issues with 2d and 3d mode rotation that has made us rethink our gaming model.  The station looks awesome and the game play is not exactly as we had hoped.   Looking at things from top view is not very appealing and we have lost interest in building more mechanics on it.  As testers and developers of our own game this is beyond bad.   Izac and I have agreed to change the view port settings to isometric.  We’ve come up with a few rough sketches and we like the way the station and weapon systems are looking on our new angle and so we will be remodeling the entire game.  This is also in the hopes that our C# coding improves.

Unity seems to have a mind of its own and we are having a hard time with Vector3 and point rotation coordinates.  Our math is not very good when it comes to coordinate system in a 3d environment so we are going to learn calculus  and while we are at it we can learn Blender Cycles Render as some books are now available at our local library.

We never expected that we had to learn so much to make such a simplistic game.  We are enjoying the roadblocks and the walls that we hit along the way in making our Battle Station game.  We are also allocating one hour of exercise as it helps with our creative thinking. ( That and we haven’t done much playing outside this past month.  We’ve been stuck in the house reading all these manuals and books.)

It is possible that our next post would be around January.  We hope you all have good holidays with your loved ones.

Battle Station Update

We’ve had our first working prototype of the space station as well as its first turret.  At this moment it only shoots one way and its not very fun BUT we did manage to get it working.  Our next step is  to add rotation to our turret and a targeting AI.  Izac is working on the missile and the launcher and I am I looking forward to see what he is going to shape it to be.

Battle Station

Our new Battle Station Model  is now started.  We’ve made the station with blender and are ready to start adding textures that can bring the station to life.  Click Here for pictures.

Our First Finished Tutorial

SS_SS     Unity Space Shooter Tutorial

Our first try to make the tutorial from unity has taken some time to finish.  We have made some changes to test our models and we have gone from asteroids to steel bombs.  We like the shiny objects we created.  We will be taking the code apart and will create one of our own in the next few months.  Izac has more homework now so our work will be focused on weekends.  The game is online and ready to be played.  Keep in mind this is a very very simple game.

www.dream2code.com/unity

This game uses flash player and unity web plug in.  You will be prompted to install these if your browser does not have it.  You can manually download unity web player from their secure website at unity3d.com.

-Update:

We’ve found a bug in the unity engine and if you don’t keep your mouse pointer inside the game area none of the controls will work.  This is a To Do list for future games.    Controls: wasd or use the arrow keys on your keyboard.  To shoot use your left mouse button.  Again if your mouse cursor is not inside the game area  your game controls will stop working.  Just click again inside the game area to resume controls.

Dream 2 Code

meWhat is Dream 2 Code?

Dream 2 Code is our project that we  will be building just for making games in google play store and here on the web.  Izac has shown interest in joining forces to create games and even code.  So here we are making it the right way and totally serious about what we will be building.

If we ever lack the posts or words by us truly then it is due to the fact that all if not most of our time is being spent reading manuals or testing code.  The rest of our time is divided into making 3d models for our games.  We will post progress as much as we can.

Software We Are Using.

For our 3d modeling we will be using Blender (  http://www.blender.org ). This is free software you can own.  And allows commercial  and personal use.

For our gaming engine we will  be using Unity3d ( http://unity3d.com ) while this is not entirely free the main engine is free to use and allows some commercial to some limitations that we find acceptable.

For our graphics well that will be using Gimp. ( http://www.gimp.org ).  This is also free software.

If you have questions or would like to send references or tips on any of our work please feel free to post it here on our page or our facebook.  Yes we are still trying to figure out facebook! =)
